GSSA was started by and is run by students. We have limited funds, but have significant plans to help this organization grow. When we first started, we hosted the Boston Global Surgery Symposium, which was watched by thousands of people around the world. Since then, our network has grown to almost 3500 students, and 60 schools have either created or are starting to create global surgery working groups. Students and trainees around the country are incredibly excited about this field!

In the future, we want to be able to host even larger events, do greater outreach, and be able to support the incredible students and trainees who want to contribute to global surgery in meaningful ways, including students in both high-income and low-income countries. We are also working on several large-scale projects in advocacy, education, and research that need significant support in the coming years.
