Bio: Dr. Susan Briggs is a trauma surgeon with extensive experience in disaster response. She has worked in numerous conflict zones and disaster settings, providing emergency surgical care and leading efforts to establish field hospitals in areas of crisis. Dr. Briggs has been instrumental in the development of global health response systems and has worked with various humanitarian organizations to improve the coordination and delivery of surgical care in emergencies. She is a recognized leader in disaster medicine and field surgery.

Bio: Geoffrey Anderson is an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School and a trauma surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital where he serves as an assistant program director for research. He completed his general surgical training at the Massachusetts General Hospital and trauma fellowship at LA County Hospital. He is currently an associate program director at the Program in Global Surgery and Social Change with research interests that focus on surgical education and capacity building in Rwanda and trauma education in wartime in Ukraine. He is also faculty at the Center for Surgery and Public Health where he works on the social determinants of trauma, financial toxicity associated with trauma, patient reported outcomes and long-term outcomes for trauma patients. Dr Anderson was formerly active duty in Air Force Special Operations and is a veteran of 5 combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is currently in the Air Force Reserves and is the flight commander of a Critical Care Air Transport Team and recently deployed to Djibouti in support of military operations in Africa.

Bio: Dr. Nugud, currently serving as the Director General of the Gezira National Centre for Pediatric Surgery, has a distinguished career in medical academia and surgical practice. He is the Head of the Department of Surgery at Gezira University and an Associate Professor of Pediatric Surgery, reflecting his deep commitment to advancing medical education and pediatric care. Dr. Nugud is also the President of the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association, where he plays a crucial role in advocating for patients with these conditions. His leadership extends to being the Executive Director of the SAPA operation office in Gezira state and directing research and scientific efforts at the NCPS. With a foundational degree, MBBS, from the University of Khartoum, acquired in March 1992, Dr. Nugud furthered his expertise by obtaining an MD in General Surgery from the University of Gezira in July 1998, followed by a Diploma in Pediatric Surgery from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan, completed between 2000 and 2001. He has also enriched his clinical skills through attachment at the Children's Hospital of Michigan in 2012. Dr. Nugud is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Medical Professional Education at the University of Gezira. In his commitment to the professional medical community, Dr. Nugud is an active member of several professional associations, such as the Sudan Association of Pediatric Surgeons, which he helped establish in 2005, and the Sudan Association of Surgeons, joining in 1998. His memberships extend to the Pan Arab Pediatric Surgery Association and the Sudanese Societies of Urological and General Surgeons. As a member of the exam committee of the Sudan Medical Specialization Board, Dr. Nugud also plays a significant role in shaping the next generation of medical professionals, actively examining in 26 medical schools across Sudan and the Orotta Medical School in Asmara, Eritrea.

Bio: Orit Abrahim, MD holds a bachelor’s degree in the History of Science, Medicine, and Public Health with a focus in international development from Yale University, an MPH in Chronic Disease Epidemiology and Global Health from Yale School of Public Health, and an MD from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She previously served as a Research Fellow at the Center for Humanitarian Health at the Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her research interests lie in comprehensive health systems strengthening (including surgical services), particularly in humanitarian contexts, and the development of equitable global partnerships in health.

Bio: Getahun Gebregziabher Gebremariam is an accomplished orthopedic trauma and arthroplasty fellow currently honing his expertise at Addis Ababa University's Black Lion Specialized Referral Hospital in Ethiopia. With an MD and FCS (ECSA) in Orthopedics, he serves as an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic and Trauma Surgery, bringing solid academic credentials from Mekelle University, Ayder Comprehensive Specialized Hospital. During the Tigray War, Getahun dedicated over two years to providing essential surgical care at Mekelle University and various outreach hospitals, exemplifying his commitment to patients in crisis situations. His excellence in the field is further highlighted by his recognition as a gold medalist in his undergraduate medical program, an award for best instructor by residents, and a commendation from the Tigray regional president for his invaluable service during the conflict
