We invite you to submit abstracts for presentation at the Utah Global Surgery Symposium!

Abstracts may be based on basic, clinical, or translational research, innovation in low-resource settings, or educational programs and initiatives related to global surgery. Especially for innovation or education related projects, we will accept abstracts on projects in progress. We ask for the following formats for abstracts:

  • Science Forum: Intro/Methods/Results/Discussion 

  • Innovation & Education Forums: Purpose/Development/Results/Discussion

Additionally, all abstracts are required to follow these guidelines:

  • Word Limit: 350 (not including title) + 1 table (max 5 columns, 10 rows) or figure

  • Author Limits: none, we just need author affiliation and location

Has the abstract you are submitting already been presented at any other national/international conference? Please note that we ARE accepting abstracts that have been presented elsewhere, but will prioritize podium presentations for abstracts that have not been presented. For inquiries related to abstract submission or decisions, please contact us at

Important dates

Abstract sumbissions will be accepted beginning January 25, 2021. The following deadlines will apply to submitted work: 

  • February 21, 2021 for consideration of “podium” presentations. Podium presentations will be presented live, in real-time on the conference dates through the virtual platform, barring any extenuatng circumstances. 

  • March 12, 2021 for poster conisderation only


Following submission, work will be reviewed as follows: 

  • February 22-28, 2021: Abstracts are reviewed for podium consideration. Notifications will be sent March 1, 2021.

  • Rolling basis: Abstracts will be reviewed for posters. Notifications will be sent on March 3, 8, and 15​, 2021.


For accepted works, presentations will be due as follows: 

  • March 19, 2021 for podium presentations

  • March 24, 2021 for posters
